Lyric writing and composition workshop
From verse to song
We write lyrics and discover how a text takes on melody and rhythm. For everyone who loves words and music, at any level of experience.
Who it is for
For anyone who writes, or wants to write, lyrics and would like to hear them set to music, at any level of experience.
How we work
We write, read aloud, experiment with rhythm and melody and work on our pieces within the group. Each meeting combines a short introduction, writing and composition exercises, and listening with feedback.
What you take with you
- At least one finished song of your own
- Tools for the structure, rhythm and imagery of a lyric
- A first recording of the group's pieces
What you need in order to take part
A stable internet connection, a camera, a microphone and a quiet space. The material for each meeting is sent electronically.
The two cycles
Cycle A
The lyric: structure, rhythm, rhyme, imagery and narrative in the lyric. Writing exercises, listening and feedback in the group. First simple settings to music.
Cycle B
The song: setting lyrics to music, melody and basic harmony, song form (verse, chorus, bridge), interpretation. Recording of the group's pieces and an open listening session.
The modules are indicative and are adapted to the needs of each group. Cycle B requires Cycle A. Registration is per cycle.
At the end of the cycle
The cycle ends with an open listening session of the group's songs and a certificate of participation.
How you start
- You express your interest through the form.
- We call you, to get to know each other and answer your questions.
- You take part in the introductory meeting, without a contribution.
- You complete your registration for the cycle through a personal link and choose your contribution.
How the group works
The group forms during the first two meetings and then closes. Registrations are accepted up to and including the second meeting of the cycle. From then on the composition stays the same, because trust and shared work are built meeting by meeting.
